A gas pipeline exploded in Handan, Hebei, and nearby businesses caught fire

On December 7th, a gas pipeline exploded in Nanyan village, Handan Economic Development Zone, Hebei Province. The explosion occurred after a gas pipeline leaked, and a fire broke out in a nearby business. The fire has now been put out, and no casualties were caused. Relevant departments are carrying out follow-up disposal.

The gas pipeline is very "fragile" due to various factors

This often leads to pipeline rupture and gas leakage

  • Natural gas leaks in the air are prone to ignition and explosion in the presence of open flames, causing personal injury and property damage;
  • If it is in a confined space, it may cause poisoning or suffocation of personnel; if it reaches the explosive limit (5%-15% in the air), it will explode in the presence of open flame.
  • Natural gas explosion has strong destructive power and extremely serious consequences.

How to avoid leakage accidents of the built gas pipelines?

In densely populated areas and high consequence areas, if the urban gas pipeline leaks, it will cause continuous leakage of natural gas and may lead to a fire explosion accident if not detected in time. Especially in areas where the gas pipeline passes through railways and highways, it is extremely easy to cause casualties and damage to public facilities. Therefore, fixed reflective laser gas remote meters can be used to conduct real-time long-distance active detection of the pressure and sub-high pressure pipelines on the urban ground and the medium-pressure trunk pipelines in densely populated areas, to detect early micro-leaks and provide timely warnings. This will provide a longer emergency response time and prevent serious accidents caused by micro-leaks developing into large leaks.

In addition, improving inspection efficiency can also effectively avoid accidents. Daily inspections can be carried out using a vehicle-mounted laser inspection system for regular inspections. The inspection vehicle can travel at speeds up to 50km/h, instantly detect gas leakage data, and accurately locate it through the Beidou/GPS system. Combined with the GIS system, the inspection data (whether there is a leak, the concentration of the leak, and the location of the leak) can be transmitted to the monitoring center in real time through a wireless network.

For areas where it is difficult for inspection vehicles to enter, such as narrow alleys and old residential areas, electric vehicle-mounted laser inspection systems can be used to detect detection points at a cruising speed of 20 km/h, find leakage areas, shorten inspection time, and greatly improve the efficiency of daily inspection and maintenance work.
