In November 2023, the Wenchang Gas-fired Power Plant in Hainan assumed a vital mission in energy supply. Amid the drive to optimize the energy structure, natural gas — as a clean energy source — has seen a steady rise in its proportion of the energy mix. The safe and stable operation of natural gas pressure-regulating pipelines within the plant is crucial to ensuring energy supply and production safety, making the enhancement of safety monitoring capabilities an urgent priority. To address this need, 4 sets of fixed scanning laser gas telemetry instruments were installed at key locations, including the natural gas pressure regulating station, pre-module area, and startup boiler room area. Additionally, 4 units of IoT-based laser gas leak detectors were deployed in the gas turbine room area, which has limited space. This targeted monitoring setup for different zones has established a comprehensive, multi-level gas safety monitoring network. It has significantly improved the capacity for detecting natural gas leaks, effectively safeguarding the operational safety of natural gas pressure-regulating pipelines and the entire plant site.
